Moi and about.me
about.me has been a personal page since 2010 and shipped the thing everyone else in this category is now talking about: a visitor can chat with your page. Its "Virtual Twin" is live, includes lead capture and meeting booking, and costs 6 dollars a month. If you want a talking profile today, it exists there.
What we share
A personal page at a memorable URL, and the belief that a visitor should be able to ask a question rather than scroll for the answer.
Where we differ
Where the answers come from. about.me's demo of its own twin says nothing about sources, training data, or citations. Its documentation describes the twin as a white-label "AI Chat Receptionist" whose starter prompts are written for plumbers and pet groomers, with an explanation panel visible to the owner and no citation visible to the reader. Moi's Ask page cites the fact each sentence came from, shows how that fact got onto the record, and refuses anything the record does not hold. There is no model between the question and the answer unless you switch one on for your own page, and then it may only re-phrase what retrieval already found.
What a refusal becomes. In the platform about.me resells, "not enough information" becomes a name, phone and email capture form. On Moi a refusal is a refusal: the question goes to you, and if you answer it, the answer becomes citable.
Billing. about.me's few public reviews describe 84-dollar annual charges with a three-day cancellation window that opens a year after signup. Moi has no billing yet; when it does, cancelling will be as easy as signing up, by doctrine, and never gated behind a window.
A reason to come back. about.me stalled, by its own coverage, because people visited once or twice a year to update a profile. Moi shows you every question strangers asked about you and what your record could not answer, which is a reason to return that a static profile never had.
What about.me does that Moi does not
Lead capture, meeting booking, and a voice-and-personality chat. Persona cloning is refused by Moi's doctrine; answers are assembled from facts, in the third person.
Could not verify
about.me's user numbers. Its Trustpilot footprint is twelve reviews in total, which is itself the finding.
